Central Gauteng and the Wanderers Club hosted the SA Masters Championships from 8 – 11 August. This prestigious event is open to all players across the country who are 40 years or older. Most of the top players from around South Africa were represented at the event and the Snooker was of a very high standard. After some riveting matches in the semifinals, it was current SA Singles Champion, Mutalieb Allie and former SA Masters Champion, Pierre Jordaan, who progressed to the finals. Both players produced some very good Snooker, but in the end, it was Mutalieb Allie who claimed yet another national title.SA Masters Winner 2018 – Mutalieb Allie

In the SA Masters Plate event, it was Munier Cassim who took on Faraad James and performed flawlessly, claiming an emphatic victory to claim the title. While the Masters battled it out in Johannesburg, the SA Ladies Snooker Championships were played in Cape Town. During the course of these championships, three titles are contested, namely the SA Ladies Singles, SA Ladies 6 Reds and the SA Ladies Classic. Two players stood head and shoulders above the rest and after a trio of closely contested matches and some very good Snooker, it was Nicola Rossouw who claimed the SA Ladies Singles, as well as the SA Ladies 6 Reds titles, while Joy Willenberg took the SA Ladies Classic title. Well done ladies. It is so good to see our ladies performing so well and going from strength to strength.

The Bradley Richards Gauteng 6 Reds Championships took place on the weekend of 25 & 26 August at The Matchroom in Benoni. This shortened version of the game always produces some exciting matches and this event was no different. After two days of great performances, it was the two players from Gauteng North, Kiashan Moodley and Munier Cassim, who progressed to the finals. Kiashan was too strong on the day and he claimed the title, also claiming the highest break of 71 for the tournament.

The final of the Plate event was contested by Rafique Limbada and Zahier Mahomed, both from Central Gauteng and The Wanderers Club. Rafique was too strong on the day and claimed the title. Well done to all the participants on another strong showing.
The South African Interprovincials, Pairs, Classic and Billiards will be played at The Wanderers Club during September, so I look forward to bringing you the results in our next article.
